Biography
Mark D. Poindexter
Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge
Mark D. Poindexter has been an Administrative Law Judge with the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings since January 2001. Judge Poindexter previously served as a judge in the Office of Adjudications and Hearings, the mayoral pilot program for the Office of Administrative Hearings. In 2006, Judge Poindexter was unanimously reappointed to the bench for a ten-year term by the DC Commission on Selection and Tenure of Administrative Law Judges.
Prior to his initial appointment, Judge Poindexter was in private practice with the international law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP, where he specialized in complex civil and "white collar" criminal litigation, as well as Federal and District of Columbia government regulatory affairs.
Judge Poindexter is a graduate of Harvard College and Boston College Law School, where he served as an editor of the Boston College Third World Law Journal. Judge Poindexter serves as a member of several national legal organizations, including the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary and the Washington Bar Association's Judicial Council. Judge Poindexter also serves as a moot court judge for numerous District of Columbia law school competitions, including Georgetown University School of Law's Charles Hamilton Houston moot court competition under the ABA's CLEO program. In his spare time, Judge Poindexter enjoys listening to and performing sacred and classical music. He has been a performing member of the American Guild of Organists, having studied under Professor Thomas Murray, University Organist, Yale University, and John Ferris, retired University Organist for the Harvard Memorial Church.
