Paying a Fine
If you have received a Notice of Violation or a Notice of Infraction and wish to “admit” the violation or infraction and pay the fine, you can do so by:
- coming in person to the Office of Administrative Hearings, 441 Fourth Street, NW, Suite 450N, which is reached through the North Lobby elevators. The building itself is above the Judiciary Square stop (“Courts” exit) on Metro’s Red Line. The D1, D3 and D6 Metro busses stop at the corner of Fourth and E Streets NW. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is very limited street parking; or
- mailing the check or money order to the Office of Administrative Hearings, 441 Fourth Street, NW, Suite 450N, Washington, DC 20001.
Please put the number from the Notice of Violation or Notice of Infraction on the check or money order. It is also helpful if you include a copy of the Notice of Violation or Notice of Infraction to which you are responding.
Read the Notice carefully to see how much time you have to answer—it may be that you have as little as 14 days to file your payment with the Office of Administrative Hearings. If your payment is received after the deadline, an extra amount equal to the initial fine may be imposed.
If you have had a hearing and have received a Final Order from an administrative law judge imposing a fine, you can follow the procedure outlined above to pay the fine.
The Office of Administrative Hearings does not accept cash or credit cards at the present time.
