Yewande Kolawole

Yewande D. Kolawole was appointed to serve as an Administrative Law Judge with the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) in July 2016.

Since joining OAH, Judge Kolawole has presided over cases involving Rental Housing, DC Public Schools (student discipline, vendor disputes and residency challenges), Licensing and Enforcement, Public Benefits and Unemployment Insurance.

Prior to joining the OAH, Judge Kolawole was a Section Chief at the Office of Attorney General (OAG) for the District of Columbia. She joined OAG in 2001 as a trial attorney in the Child Protection Section where she was responsible for prosecuting abuse and neglect cases and for handling several hundred post-adjudication cases.   In 2006, Judge Kolawole was promoted to the position of Section Chief and supervised a specialized section that handled adoption and termination of parental rights cases for several years. During her tenure at OAG, Judge Kolawole was the recipient of OAG’s Extra Mile Award and had the distinction of being certified as a Child Welfare Law specialist by the National Association of Counsel for Children.

Before joining OAG, Judge Kolawole worked in private practice for several years after serving as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Susan R. Winfield at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.   A native of Washington, DC, Judge Kolawole is a graduate of Howard University School of Law and Spelman College.
